Hytale Biomes and Zones Explained
The difference between a zone and a biome, what each Hytale zone contains, and how to find a biome on the seed map.

Zones are the big picture, biomes are what you walk through
A zone is a large region with its own climate, difficulty and resources. A biome is the smaller environment inside it: a birch forest, a desert oasis, a frozen plain, an ash field. One zone holds many biomes, and the same biome can look different depending on what surrounds it.
The seed map draws both. Switch to Zones for the large regions, or stay on Biomes for the local environment. The zone map guide explains how the regions are arranged.

The zones and their main biomes
These are the five environments in the 0.7.x world generation, with the biome families you will meet in each. The names come from the game itself. Older versions may not have every variant.
| Zone | Theme | Main biomes |
|---|---|---|
| Zone 1Emerald Wilds | Temperate starting zone | Birch, flower and aspen forests; gullies; autumn, azure and moss forests; swamp; smooth and tallgrass plains; gorges; mountains, lakes and rivers |
| Zone 2Howling Sands | Savannah and desert | Baobab savannah, savannah forest, plains and rock; scrub bushland; desert oasis, red desert, desert rock and springs; dunes; plateaus; tar pits |
| Zone 3Whisperfrost Frontiers | Frozen north | Fir, redwood, cedar and mixed cedar forests; tundra; hot springs; shire; frozen forest and frozen plains; glaciers; rocky and tundra beaches; outlander villages |
| Zone 4Devastated Lands | Volcanic endgame | Ash wastes, burned forest, roots, lava and volcanoes; geysers; ghost forest and swamp; dunes and grasslands; canyons; skeleton villages and towns |
| OceanOceans | Water and islands | Cold, temperate and tropical reef, kelp and sandy biomes; trenches; islands; ocean cities; coral tubes and underwater ruins |
Zone 1 is also called the Emerald Grove in some community guides. The in-game name is Emerald Wilds.
Why two desert seeds can look different
The game does not spread biomes evenly. Some, like rivers, mountains, lakes and glaciers, only appear where the terrain suits them. So two seeds can both have a desert while one is mostly dunes and the other is full of oases.
A biome is also not a structure. A dungeon can be missing from a biome that looks perfect for it, because structures have their own placement rules. The structures guide covers that layer.
Find a specific biome on the map
- Open the Hytale seed map and enter the world seed and version.
- Keep the layer on Biomes. Each colour in the legend is a biome.
- Press
/or click the finder, then type the biome name, for example oasis or autumn. - Choose whether to search from spawn or from the centre of the map.
- Click a result to jump there. The coordinates are shown with the marker.
If a biome is not in the list, it may not exist in that game version. The list is built from the version you selected, not from one global list.
Oceans and special regions
The ocean is not a numbered land zone, but it has its own biomes and structures: cold, temperate and tropical reefs, kelp forests, trenches, islands, ocean cities and underwater ruins. The map shows them on the biome layer too. Exploring the ocean is a different trip from walking outward through the land zones.
FAQ
- How many biomes does Hytale have?
- More than the table above once you count the river, mountain, lake and village variants. The exact number changes with the game version, so the map builds its list from the version you choose.
- What is the difference between a zone and a biome?
- A zone is the large region and difficulty tier. A biome is the local environment inside it. Zone 2 is the desert region; an oasis is one of its biomes.
- Where are zones 5 and 6?
- The versions covered here have four numbered land zones plus the ocean. The zone map guide explains where those searches come from.
